Greetings,
As I mentioned in a previous article,
the decision was made to "Go Green" at the chamber. As a result of
that decision, this will be our first "e-News Letter". Rather than
the customary mailed version, we are moving into the modern age of
electronic communication. This change offers a couple benefits. It
will reduce the cost of doing chamber business by eliminating the
need to purchase and mail the printed materials. It will also allow
us to be better stewards of the planet by reducing our carbon
footprint as we will be producing less throw away paper products. It
should be a win-win situation that will benefit everyone concerned.
If a printed copy is needed, you can always print one from your
computer. Hopefully the change will go without a hitch but if not,
please bear with us as we make the transition.
Our annual bowling event was well
attended. We had 144 bowlers and a good time was had by all. Thank
you to the folks at Lodge Lanes for hosting the event and all the
supporters for the generous donations. Also thank you to everyone
that came out in the cold to bowl with us. Keith Johnston did a nice
job organizing the event and special thanks goes to the board
members for their work with the ticket and raffle sales, and all the
help behind the scene. Their efforts made the evening a real
success.
Be sure to mark your calendar for the
Event of the Year! The Annual Auction and Wine Tasting event will be
held on Friday, March 12th at the Crowne Plaza. Chuck Zuerner and
the Auction Committee have been working very hard to make this a
very special night for everyone to enjoy.
Professional Auctioneer Doug Dalton
will be leading us through the live portion of the auction and he is
a master at his craft. Lots of items will be auctioned off including
a trip to Cabo and a suite at Comerica Park.
For dinner, your choice of steak or
fish will be served and there will be plenty of wine to sample. In
case you happen to enjoy the wine a little too much, or you just
don't feel like driving home after the event, the Crowne is offering
special rates for attendees. Just ask at the front desk. Please make
your reservations for this event early with Karen LaBelle at the
chamber office or with any one of the directors so proper
preparations can be made.
Also at the Crowne Plaza, on April
23rd, we will be honoring this years recipient of "The Person of the
Year Award", Julie Allison. This is a well deserved recognition of
her participation with the community and serves to remind us how,
with a little effort and a big heart, one person can have a positive
impact on the community and the people around them. Julie is one of
those special individuals that is very giving of her time to a
worthy cause and I am sure that she would love to see you there.
Please come out and join us in the celebration.
Food for Thought:
There is a direct correlation between the success of a community and
the willingness of people to get involved with it. Are you involved?
Sincerely,
Terry Bridges
